"Just War:" Reformation and Todaystudy to see if their war is truly just. It didn't work to stop Christian kings from fighting each other, and because of sin it will not deter war in our day either. In last week's article we saw that the Bible actually teaches that there will be more strife, not less, as the Judgment approaches. Meanwhile, in this month of October, we Lutherans can appreciate the "just war" theory for one benefit. By this doctrine and its application in the Medieval Church, Luther could carry out the Reformation under the safety offered by the Elector of Saxony. Thus a man-made doctrine becomes a tool of God to carry out His Gospel ministry.
