their civic duties. So, as a Lutheran church, our pastors use their pulpits for preaching God's Word, not for political campaigning. God's Word certainly is relevant to political, economic, and social issues -- it explains the human condition as only humanity's Creator can explain it -- but we remember that our greatest concern is the salvation of souls from sin, not the salvation of society from the evils of life on this earth. By God's grace, we're Lutherans. What Luther found in the Bible we find there also, which means that we find Christ there. Christ, the Son of God. Jesus, conceived as a real, human, historical, and holy child in the virgin Mary through a miracle of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ, true man, true God, our One and Only Savior from sin, death and the power of the devil -- Christ our Lord, our Friend, our Substitute on the cross, who paid the price for all the sins of all the world. This knowledge and faith changes us from sinners into saints; it influences every area of our lives, and moves us to strive harder every day to please our gracious God with works of love and service. So we're a Lutheran church, committed to Christ our Lord -- we're a Christian church. And as people who have been given new life in Christ, whose days have been devoted to service and praise, we will not permit that new life to be endangered in any way. Thus our confession of Christ does not change, the object of our faith does not change, and the reason for our hope does not change. In Christ and his work alone can salvation be found -- we place our faith in him, we find our hope in his gospel, we take our stand on his Word, and we stand firm and unyielding in the truth. So yes, we admit it. We thank God for it. We're Lutherans - and all that that entails. For Reformation, feel free to read the 95 Thesis, check out the Reformation Party we have held at Salem.
