Behold, a Child Born of a Virgin is Born of a Promisealso enlarge to include "every race, tribe, and nation." Jesus' kingdom is all-inclusive-Jew and Greek, German and American, those who sing the German chorale and those who sing spirituals, those who are lifelong members and know all the rites and those who are new to the kingdom and have no traditions. All are included in this kingdom. The kingdom is also one of justice and righteousness. In God's Law we learn right from wrong and are made aware of sin. We are also made righteous in the blood of Christ, born this day in Bethlehem. In the death of Christ God fulfills justice and bestows upon us Christ's righteousness. We are free subjects in a gracious kingdom sent out to rescue others from bondage, blindness, and warfare. We are agents to enlarge the nation as we share the hope we harbor within us. We do this because Christ rules in our hearts and we know that he will do the work as we share his Good News. We may dream about what our children become. In the end, we encourage them to find their talents and abilities and pursue their life dreams. But one thing we do know about our children. Though they, like us, are born blind, in the shadow of death, burdened by sin and guilt, and in warfare, they are redeemed children of God, children of light, and citizens of a heavenly kingdom ruled by the one whose birth we celebrate today. Merry Christmas! Rejoice in the virgin's Son who is our King. AMEN
