Holiday Shortcuts

Holiday Cheer In A Cup!
  • Turn holiday chores into family traditions. Make tree trimming an event by having a warm family breakfast and listening to holiday music while you all decorate together. (Or while they decorate and you direct from the couch!) If you pace it right, the tree will be just ready to light up as it gets dark. Ooooh! Aaaah!

  • If hosting a party, let the guests help out! A potluck supper buffet can be just as yummy as a five-course meal cooked by one person, and it’s a lot easier! Assign types of dishes, so you don’t end up with six desserts and no entrĂ©e! (Although that would certainly make a memorable meal!) *lol*

  • Take advantage of your local supermarket’s deli. Many supermarkets offer ready-made platters of cold cuts, veggies or chicken wings. Believe me, it’s worth budgeting this into your holiday spending, when you think of the hours (and energy!) saved from peeling carrot sticks and arranging cheese slices!

  • Shop for gifts all year. While it may be too late to apply this hint for this year, planning ahead can save you stress, time and energy during the holidays. If you do this, make sure to have one specified place to hide your booty, or else you’ll be finding ungiven gifts in March! (I have actually done this, I’m sad to say!)

  • Marna Gatlin’s Crock Pot Roast recipe. An easy way to make a hearty, holiday-type dinner that is easier to make than to eat! :-)

  • Allison Huller McAlister’s Dump Cake recipe. This recipe offers the appeal of a homemade dessert, without the hard work!

Keep in mind that it’s not the trimmings that your family and friends want for the holidays. They would much rather have the sweet memories of laughter and time shared being together and happy.

This is the time of year that we hold our families and friends close and let them know what they mean to us. Keeping our minds and activities focused on what’s really important can help us reserve our energy for enjoying the holidays, not having to recover from them.

Take Care of You, and Happy Holidays!
