I'll Be Alone For ChristmasEven if you wanted to forget, it's kind of hard to miss. Jingle bells are in the air, Santa's on the television and every street is lit up like - well, like Christmas. That's right, the holiday season is upon us- and it's the hap-hap-happiest time of the year. Or so they say. Now before you get your antlers twisted, let me just state for the record that I absolutely love Christmas. I'm always the first one to deck the halls and bake...errr...eat...the cookies. I think I start singing Christmas carols while the trick or treaters are still at my door. I'm probably one of those jolly folks that most of you could live without. And just in case you're not convinced yet, let me state soemthing else for the record, I enjoy Christmas shopping. The lines don't even bother me. I could stay in the stores and listen to the holidays music all day (except for those jingle bell barking dogs -even I have limits). But even the holliest and jolliest of us can get a little down when Santa Claus is coming to town but your sweetheart isn't. I'll admit I've had my share of holiday moments that were less than festive because my guy was way out of mistletoe range. And sometimes those carols aren't much of a distraction. Blue Christmas? I've known the feeling. Luckily for me, this sort of sentiment never lasted all season. I always liked the Christmas cheer too much to let it pass while I cried in my egg nog. And though some may prefer to hibernate until after Dick Claark has rocked in another year, I've always believed that there really is a Christmas spirit - and that spirit can be felt no matter how many miles lie between loved ones. Spending Christmas together may very well top your wsh list, but then again, Christmas isn't supposed to be about getting everything you want. The true gift is in having found someone who fills your heart regardless of whether or not he can be there to fill your stocking. And to share that happiness with those around you - now there's a gift they'll never exchange. No, I haven't been hitting the cider. It's just that Christams spirit I've been referring to - it's what makes so many of us become reflective and sentimental this time of year - well, it's either that or the fruitcake (and heaven knows it can't be the fruitcake).
