When Love Comes To Town

or correspondence. Of course, you don't want to miss an important call or pay your bills late. Try to prepare in advance. Prioritize. Organize. If you know which bills are due to arrive, you can keep and eye out for their arrival so they don't get buried under the pile that's piling. Try to notify business associates or important callers that you will be unavailable for the duration of your partner's stay. Perhaps tell them you will be out of town and let them know you plan to be in contact as soon as you return. The great adavnatge of email is that it can be resolved with the touch of a button. So, unless you're expecting something imperative, don't be afraid to virtually ignore it (at least temporarily). Remember, your mail, your phone, your computer...will all still be waiting when you have the time to tend to them. Don't feel obligated to check them sooner.

The Friendly Brush Off

So they're used to you being (seemingly) single, able to dash out the door at the ringing of a phone, free to chat indefinitely, to babysit, shop, run errands, grant favors - whatever - at the shortest of notice. Now, they can't even reach you. They feel left out, pushed aside, even abandoned. You feel guilty, but you also feel that a true friend will understand and accept that your priorities have shifted. And you're right. A real friend will still be a friend even after you've briefly blown them off. Heck, they'll even support you (once they've sorted through said feelings of abandonment and realized your happiness is as important to them as it is to you). So stop feeling guilty and enjoy the time you have to share with your love. And count on your friends to be there once you've said that painful goodbye at the train station.

All in all, it's easy to maximize your time together once you realize that the together part is really all that matters. Because before you know it, it will be time to "get back to your normal routine" and you'll be wishing for unanswered email, lunches with Grandma and local errands to fill your empty time.
