Product Review: Derma-Smoothe/FS

It's a foregone conclusion that the shower cap will slide off my head in the middle of the night. Not once has it stayed on the entire time. You can always tell which pillow is mine, because it smells like peanuts. But the medication has still done its job. I'm not totally clear but it's a whole lot better.

The mind-blowing thing about Derma-Smoothe/FS is the success rate of this medication. "In FDA clinical studies, 83% of patients experienced good (50%) to complete clearing (100%) within 1 to 3 weeks of daily use," Hill Dermaceuticals boasts in its FAQ.

Not one person had to be dropped from product testing because of side effects. "The efficacy of the product is attributed primarily to the peanut oil's softening action," the FAQ states. "The amount of corticosteroid is minimal: (0.01%) which accounts for the lack of adverse reactions."

That's cool!

Those of you who are allergic to peanut products, take heart. The September 2000 issue of Dermatology Times, in announcing the approval of the Derma-Smoothe/FS Atopic Pak for use in pediatric cases, said even peanut-sensitive patients could use a peanut oil-based treatment for psoriasis. "Several published peanut oil studies confirm that refined peanut oil does not contain peanut protein, which is what causes peanut-sensitive patients to become reactive," the article says.

Talk to your doctor about this product; decide together if it's right for you. If you're like most scalp psoriasis patients, you won't be disappointed with the results.
