I'm often asked the question, "Where can I find research studies into PBC?" Once upon a time it was difficult, there was little or no information out there at all on studies. However as PBC awareness increases, more and more cases of PBC are being detected and diagnosed, thus, albeit slowly, research into PBC is increasing. The following studies listed here will hopefully assist you in managing your PBC.
Primary Biliary Cirrhosis: Epidemiology Helping the Clinician This study challenges PBC as being a rare disease and shows that the disease is more common that previously thought. It also discusses geographical areas of the world where it appears pockets of the disease have been reported. This website is endorsed by Physicians Home Page; Medinex; Wellness Web; HONcode: Principles of the Health On the Net Foundation and Physician.com. It offers a Cirrhosis File that covers topics such as treatment studies, alternative medicine therapies and general studies. While the file covers all areas of cirrhosis, it offers up-to-the-minute findings on treatments for PBC. Unfortunately it isn't free, to gain full access costs $9.95. If anyone purchases the Cirrhosis File, please share with us how you find the information contained within it. Was it helpful, worth the money? Did you discover research and information that could be found anywhere else? If it's worth the money then perhaps others won't mind paying it - thank you. Leslie is a registered nurse and she wrote to tell me that she had downloaded the Cirrhosis File. She says-- I Found a great deal of helpful information on a full range of topics that I have not found anywhere else. These include new research, alternative therapies, and methods of coping. I recommend the Cirrhosis File to anyone with any concept of digesting medical info, or to anyone who has a good friend who will translate it for him or her. Thank you so much Leslie for sharing your thoughts, it's very much appreciated. The PBC-ers.org helps to fund research into finding a cure for PBC. Their website is one of the best for finding latest studies and ongoing studies into PBC research. You can read the results of past studies here as well as volunteer for current ongoing studies into PBC. University of Newcastle Upon Tyne Centre for Liver Research Dr David EJ Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Hepatology & Honorary Consultant Hepatologist.
