latter require rest, they prefer to perch higher in the field. Tiny black elongated tadpoles near the shore, nearly the shape of baby fish, are presumably the fry of the leopard frog nearby. I approach the pond to check on the toad tadpoles, and a school of minnows startles. The school causes a shimmering, swishing disturbance on the surface. The Geum species turns out to be Aleppicum strictum, yellow avens.

June 19. These cool, sunny days with low humidity and puffy clouds drifting like dreamy gods are uncommon in Southern Ontario, reminiscent of cottage country. On this fine evening I must say farewell to the Eramosa River; I'll have few chances to visit during the next two months.
