Finally, to satisfy the Marco Polo in you, you are never a few hours away from an interesting exotic area. Go far north, and you'll be amazed at the scenic beauty of the mountains and sunflower and poppy fields in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. If you don't enjoy gazing at the fields, you could always opt to go trekking in dense forests. Still, a couple of hours from Bangkok are Ayutthaya and Sukhothai, where ancient remains are visible in its old temples and palaces. Go south, and you'd come to a completely different landscape where palm trees, beach huts, white sands, and the deep blue sea are all yours to immerse in. Moreover, you are just hours away from other countries in mainland Southeast Asia: Burma, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Vietnam. With all these benefits, what else would you need money for?
