THANK YOU

Hello, readers, I appreciate your patience during my lengthy absence. It's good to be back "home" here at the Suite, and writing again. I look forward to interacting with you during the year.

POLL RESULTS

When I checked the poll results, I discovered that most of you would be interested in reading book reviews and the stories of people who are well on the road to living simply. I will be more cognizant of this in planning and writing my articles.

I truly appreciate the input of those who participated in the poll.

NEW YEAR

I hope that everyone had a pleasant Holiday season - whether you celebrated Kwanzaa, Yule, Chanukah, or Christmas. Now the seasonal rush is over, the house has been undecorated, and family and friends have gotten back into their regular routines. For some people, this is followed by a sense of malaise, for others a sense of relief.

Now we are in the midst of Winter (or Summer, if you live in the Southern Hemisphere) and there are no major festivities on the near horizon (unless you consider Valentine's Day a major festival). It's a good time to regroup and perhaps create a to-do list for January. Some ideas might include:

(1) Dry cleaning is expensive. Try one of the dry cleaning sheets that you can toss into the dryer along with your woolens and other dry-cleanable clothes. They're fairly inexpensive and can be found at the grocery store.

(2) We live in an area with hard water. To minimize fading, I wash my nicer clothes in cold water with Woolite (or the grocery's store less expensive brand), after turning them inside out. For some reason, this seems to help.

(3) Take this time of relative quiet to schedule your annual and semi-annual medical appointments for the year.

(4) Food banks still need donations. Go through your pantry and donate your surplus.

(5) Give blood if you can. Blood banks are asking for donations.

(6) Check the weather-stripping on your doors and windows, and replace it if necessary. This is as necessary in Summer as it is in Winter.

(7) Did you receive new clothes or kitchen appliances for the Holidays? If so, donate old clothing and appliances .

(8) Put fresh fruit in a decorative (or plain) bowl or basket. Place it where family members will see it and, hopefully, take a piece of fruit.

No matter what you decide to put on your January to-do list, make sure you can actually follow up on it. For next month will inevitably bring its own to-do list. Also be sure that your to-do reflect your own goals and priorities.
