Changing with the Seasons

The seasons are changing, no matter which Hemisphere you call home. Spring or autumn approaches, so it might be wise to take some time now to get your house in order before the change of seasons occurs.

TO DO LIST

The changing of the seasons provide a good time to repair, clean, or give away those items that we have put away for a season or so. Take time now to go through your warm weather clothes (cold weather clothing, if you live in the Southern Hemisphere). Go through the items, one by one. When you come across something you haven't worn for two years, including shoes, put it into a box for charity. Then take the time to mend and clean those items that need attention. Now, when the weather changes, your wardrobe will be ready for you!

Look through your books, knick-knacks, CD's, videos, etc. Cull the ones you don't use or don't love, and give them to someone who will use them or love them.

Now take a look at the larger objects in your house. This would be a good time to have the furnace or air conditioner serviced so that it will continue to work safely and efficiently when you need it the most. While you're at it, make sure that your washer, dryer, and kitchen appliances are working properly.

Check lamps and light fixtures for bulbs that need to be replaced.

We are between major holidays now, so take this time to develop, scrapbook, or file away your family Holiday photos. Then they will be easy to find when you need them.

Now turn your attention to your home's exterior. Does it need a fresh coat of paint? Do you want certain seasonal plants in your garden? Does the patio furniture need some sprucing up or repair? Do the windows need to be washed? Well, go to it!

I like to have my home's exterior reflect the Season, so I hang a seasonal wreath on the front door. Inside, I accent the color scheme with seasonal colors and center pieces. None of these take much time, energy, or money - so they're a great investment in beautifying the home!

IT'S WHAT'S INSIDE THAT COUNTS

Now that your home is rid of excess "things," cleaned, in good repair, and beautiful, take some time to reflect upon the season now passing. What have you accomplished during the season? Are you pleased with how you have conducted yourself, or with your progress in a given project?
