Feline Simplicity

FELINE SIMPLICITY

I had settled into my apartment. I had had to cull furniture, books, clothing, and all my household belongings - giving much of it away in order to fit it all into a space with less than half the square footage of the house in which I had lived for nine years. Yet the apartment, in spite of being a little cramped, felt empty.

I knew of only one remedy for that emptiness, and it wasn't long before two furry, four-footed felines had taken over the apartment and turned it into a home. These little felines - a female Russian blue appropriately named Blue Moon, and a medium-haired male named Cosmo - are truly the heart of the home. Their calm assurance and loving natures have made all the difference.

In addition to their above-mentioned function, the cats seem to know something about the principles of living simply. They are true to themselves and their priorities, which are quite simple: food, clean water, shelter, entertainment, attention and cuddling. Nothing deters them from what they want, yet they do not worry or stress out in the process. Instead, they calmly proceed to use rather simple methods to achieve what they want. Such methods include, but are not limited to, meowing with various tones and inflections to indicate their needs, jumping onto the sofa next to me, sitting by the door to the patio, and following me about the apartment.

Blue Moon and Cosmo do not neglect to purr their gratitude. This simple act of grateful purring, of course, results in more of what they want.

As I write this and reflect upon these phenomenal little beings, I seriously begin to question which species - human or feline - possesses the most intelligence. Never mind - I know how Cosmo and Blue Moon would answer that.

Cosmo

Cats do have a zest for life and I have no doubt, Mari, that animals are more intelligent than humans in many ways! :)
