Seeking Faith...and Answers

© Kristen Pasculli

Now that our nation is coming to grips with the fact that thousands of lives have been lost and we are in the midst of a war, many who do not believe in God have a new-found sense of discovery.

Churches are loaded since Sept. 11, more than before. Religious personalities are calling for a spiritual revival. Those who would otherwise never thought to do so attend prayer vigils and bow their heads, even though they do not believe in God.

My intention is not to persuade anyone to be a Christian, as I am. My intent is only to speak to those out there who are struggling to understand Christianity, though yearning to have faith in something. My intent is to tell those people to feel free to inquire about Christianity.

Unfortunately, there are some people in the world who are too forceful when trying to convert people to their religion. Though their hearts are in the right place, I believe that those seeking should not be met with pressure, only assistance in answering their questions.

So what is it that's making people look twice at the Holy Bible?

Questions.

Questions about why God would allow innocent people to die. Questions about the nature of war. Questions about the end of the world.

Questions that are in need of ANSWERS.

This entire situation has caused many to turn inwards, in search of answers to questions like these. Whether they look directly to God, or the church, for answers, or within, when looking within, and evaluating life and its purpose, it's natural to wonder about the supernatural world.

I'm a Christian. I believe that Jesus lived and died for my sins. I believe that He is coming back to bring His believers up to heaven. I've had years of church involvement and biblical studies which confirm my beliefs. But those seeking have not; and there's nothing wrong with that. It just means that believers can't toss a Bible verse in their faces and expect them to understand it. Christian principles can be somewhat foreign to those in search of complete understanding.

There isn't one Christian who ever lived (besides Jesus) who fully understands it all. All that we can do is our best to understand, or to try and make sense of it all.

For many, heading to church or picking up a Bible is the first step towards trying to understand, but even understanding Biblical terms can be difficult. That's okay! That's what church is for!
