Does Long-Distance Last?

There's no one, right answer. People have met and dated over thousands of miles and wound up soul mates. And people have met, dated over thousands of miles and wound up hurt and wounded. Let's look at some pros and cons of this controversial relationship type.

As someone who has done the long-distance thing, I can say that it's not so bad. But it takes a special kind of person to withstand the hardships that must be incurred when you get involved with a person that you cannot see often. This type of person also sees those hardships as strengths.

What could be so great about not being able to cuddle with your sweetie every night, you ask? Well, since most long-distance relationships thrive on the phone, you can get to know the person more, by what they say. Of course you don't know if they practice what they preach, but the relationship is based more on getting to know one another in depth, and not just by actions.

Another good thing about dating long-distance is if it fits your lifestyle well. If you are the kind of person that is temporarily too busy to have a full-fledged relationship, but still looking to grow, then long-distance may be for you. Yet even in that circumstance, I don't believe that everyone should go out seeking long-distance relationships. They have a certain title for a reason...because they don't happen that often, and in my opinion, they should not.

I believe that having too many long-distance relationships leaves you out of touch with the feelings associated with a close-distance relationship. This is not to say people involved with long-distance relationships do not have feelings less intense than people involved in regular, close-distance, relationships. But the adjustment to long-distance romances is usually something that one can be involved in very few times. Most people, when asked, dislike long-distance relationships.

Most long-distance relationships don't want to be long-distance, and that's the best thing about them. Two people are connected in this magical way, no matter what the mileage between them is. How romantic!

The choice is up to you. And nobody better than you knows if your long-distance relationship will last. No matter what the circumstances, there are some cons associated with long-distance relationships, though the romance of it all is unbeatable. Yet for as many cons are pros...wondrous things that tell us to follow our hearts, no matter how far away the other half may be.
