Getting Refreshed for the Autumn Season

So summer is nearly over, and the kids are going back to school. If the kids aren't going back to school, the vacations are ending. It's time for adult classes, a regular workout regimen, and fall house cleaning.

Whatever is going on in your life, here are some tips to stay in touch with the people you got to meet or visit with this summer, and organize yourself for the harvest months.

Of course whenever I write these "Let's Get Organized" articles, I do it not only to ease the stress off of you, but to give you tips to organize yourself in hopes that you can spend more time with those you love.

1. Postcards are a cheap tool to stay in touch. They're always my favorite. As you return from a great vacation at your sister's house, why not send a postcard this month to tell her that you're still relaxed from the great trip and appreciate that new apple pie recipe she gave you?

Does your son or daughter have a new slue of friends from camp that he or she wants to stay in touch with? Postcards, again, are the answer.

2. Before you know it, you'll be wanting to bake - and many mothers know Halloween takes a toll on your oven. Why not grab a few magazines or go through your recipe box now to plan what you'd like to make for upcoming occasions?

Also, now is a good time to test out some fall recipes so they come out superb when you need to make them.

3. If you have any family functions or weddings coming up, hit the sale racks now for your dress. You may be able to find some pre-season sales or summer dresses that could work for a fall wedding with the touch of a nice cardigan or blazer.

4. Take the kids shopping - now. If you haven't, don't wait until the night when school starts to get the supplies. Get as much as you know your son or daughter needs now, before everything is picked over.

5. Stay at home mom or retired? Why not treat yourself to a fall class at a local community college? Check your newspaper listing to enroll. Continuing your education will keep you poised to continue learning on your own.

Plus, it's always fun to learn something new!

6. Photographs from your summer events are piling up, and if you don't get to them before the onslaught of the holidays, you may never. So get a photo album and start arranging your summer photographs before they wind up in a dusty shoebox.
