Japan: Why?
And cute young women. We definitely can’t forget cute young women. Very important.
As I’ve already mentioned, it was one such woman who got me interested enough to come back.
Furthering my studies of koto and the Japanese language were my other reasons. So I came in 1989 with the idea of teaching English for a couple years and then returning to the U.S. and starting graduate school.
It’ll take a while to explain why I’m still here, having stayed six times longer than I’d planned to... and counting.
On the other hand, maybe the short answer to the question “Why am I still here?” is the same as to the questions about ATMs, supermarkets, and even Abba:
Just because!
