What Area - Europe Two!Well, last month I talked about work and schooling opportunities on the Web for those who want to go to Europe for their “expatriation.” This month I”ll talk about volunteer opportunities, and things to watch out for as a ‘stranger in a strange land.’ (Once again, please remember: all I am doing is the initial searching for pertinent web sites to help you get an idea of how to look for opportunities to work, study and volunteer abroad. I’m not endorsing ANY of these organizations. However, I would greatly appreciate it if you sent me feedback on any of the links that I mention.) Just another studying opportunity that I found on EscapeArtist.com, (www.escapeartist.com): Internships International. The ad says that they offer ‘ Quality, nonpaying internships in London, Paris, Dublin, Dresden,.... Budapest,...... and Glasgow. Internships in all fields, from eight weeks to six months. Open to college graduates and seniors requiring an internship to graduate. Dates: Based on individual needs. Costs: $800 program fee for all cities except Dublin ($1,000). Some examples include High School term in Ireland, Work USA, French Homestay and Language Immersion, London Parliamentary Internship, Pen Pal Program,... “ And, Abbey Road Overseas Programs bills itself as ‘A Summer Study and Travel Program for American and international teenage students, based in several locations in Spain, France, and Italy,..... announcing openings and continuous screening of candidates for positions at 3 levels, for instance ,resident advisors, ... ‘ On the web site Volunteerabroad.com, which also has links to for studying, teaching, and working abroad, (www.volunteerabroad.com) there is a link to EscapeArtist.com. And, that link will take you various offers. Here are some of them : “Central European Teaching Program (http://www.beloit.edu/~cetp) -invites you to ‘ teach conversational English (or German, French, and other subjects) in schools in Hungary, Poland, and Romania. Live and work for a year in this rapidly changing part of the world, and immerse yourself in a new culture. Salary, housing, and health insurance are provided. Program support services. Dates: Sep-Jun or Jan-Jun. Costs: Placement fee: $2,000. Programs are in Bucharest and Bistrita, Romania. Dates: Vary. Minimum 2-year commitment. Costs: RCR pays for housing, living stipend, transportation, and health insurance.
