The Youngest President ElectedThe Camelot of America is a description of some to this President's Administration. A refreshing, a new look, a President who was loved by all. Unfortunately I was not yet around when President John F. Kennedy was in office, but have heard of him through all my history classes and from books I have read. I was intrigued to do some more research into this President while reading Katharine Graham's biography. It was awe striking to me that people remember where they were and what they were doing the day he was shot, Katharine talks about being at a lunch with the members of Newsweek in NYC and being told the news, it hadn't been made public knowledge yet, and walking out into the street and noticing everyone smiling and life going on as normal, and knowing they did not know what had happened. I did a quick search of the number of books on President Kennedy on Amazon and the results where phenomenal to me, over 600 results pulled up, that's a lot of books. There is a fascination over the Kennedy's in general and over John F. Kennedy, Sr. Presidency and it is evident by the amount of literature that has been written through the years. The books covers a variety of topics, early childhood, his political career, and his presidency and of course the Assassination. Learning about the Kennedy's through history class brings one thought to mind, the statement that the Kennedy's were America's Royal Family, the United States closest thing to that of a Royal Family. There was a sense of awe and respect that the American people had towards this president during and after the Presidency. When there is a time in history that is dwelled upon there will always be interesting facts that emerge, it was during Kennedy's presidency that the Bay of Pigs occurred, and the Soviet Missile Crisis as well. Did you know that President John F. Kennedy had a number of firsts for the Oval office, he was the youngest man ever-elected president. He was also the very first Roman Catholic President the United States has ever had. President Kennedy's Administration lasted a total of 1, 037 days, which is almost 3 years. I learned another interesting fact about Kennedy's political life; he never lost an election. Most politicians through their political life at sometime or another will lose an election, but not this man.
