Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Historic SiteRawlings enjoyed entertaining her neighbors. She admitted to receiving as much satisfaction from preparing a perfect dinner for a few friends as from turning out a perfect paragraph in her writing. It was through such socialization that Rawlings developed characters found in short stories and novels. In 1933, Marjorie and Charles divorced. She maintained the farm for eight years before marrying Norton S. Baskin and moving to St. Augustine. She made regular trips to her farm in Cross Creek to write and visit with friends and neighbors. At the time of her death, Rawlings was working on a biography of Ellen Glasgow. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings died December 14, 1953, at her beach home near St. Augustine, Florida.
