The New and Free MediaBeyond this, the break from corporate news allows for greater liberties in editorial work, and it is of the up-most necessity that people not only have access to the most information possible, but the most ideas as well, no matter how dissident they are considered. This does not merely qualify for the left, as is generally considered, but the right as well, and those who attempt to defy either categorization. It is important for the public to have access to as many opposing ideas as possible so that they can make an intelligent and informed decision on all matters political and otherwise. There should not be a price placed on the truth. There should not be a price on the worth of ideas. The nature of ideas is that they can spread, uninhibited to anyone who would take the time to discover them. The sale of ideas is something demeaning to their very nature, as is the sale of the 'truth' or the news. The world as a whole deserves inherently to know, to know everything that they can. We cannot afford the risk that comes along with the absence of education. As with any move of this sort there are risks, there are those who would abuse the freedom of access to information, to the spread of ideas. However, the risk that too many people would know too much, is far less than the risk involved in too few people knowing too little, allowing a minority to hold the power that shapes the world.
