Well 2002 came in with a bang. Shortly after posting last week's article, I received an email from the Suite. Some changes are being made within the company at this time, and some of those changes are being made in regards to the writers that contribute the columns to the site. I will not go into many details, but the changes are in regards to payment of writers for their work.
As I have discussed in past articles, writing for free is a good way to start out and gain credits to build your writer's portfolio. The more credits you have to show a publication, the better you look to them as a publishable writer. However, writing for once paying market that is now no longer willing to pay the writers that give them their sites content is wrong. To inform the writers at the final hour that this change is being made is also wrong. I am willing to stick it out here cause I love the Suite, and I love to write for it. I feel like I am helping out the other writers that read my article each and every week. I appreciate all of you posting me thanks and feedback in the discussions. I do not want to leave the Suite, and I hope that the site can figure out what to do in regards to writers soon. However I have decided to make some changes. At this time I am going from a weekly column to a monthly column. If I feel it necessary to post more than once a month to keep my readers informed of the on-going situation here at the Suite I will do so, but for the most part I will be writing articles on a monthly basis. This is not the first time a site has made changes. Last year we saw the death of Themestream among many others. The Internet is an always changing market. E-zines and websites come and go. As a writer, keep yourself up-to-date on the changes being made. Just keep trying, and keep writing. Don't let nothing stop you. Have a great month of January. I will see you again in February unless something else comes up. This month's market and contest of the week are: Market of the Week Website: New Writer What do they publish: Fiction, non fiction, and poetry. Payment: Varies between $10 to $20 on acceptance.
