A year in review. It is hard to believe that I started wriitng this column a year ago this month. In fact, this is my fifty-second column written for this topic. As I have been sharing my insights with you over the past year, I have learned as well. As I spend time researching markets and contests, I have possible places to submit my own work. I even won a contest or two that I have entered.
Over the past year I have learned more about the business behind this thing that I love to do called writing. There is a business to it. Since starting this column, I have learned its ins and outs, and I have shared it with those of you that read this column. Over the past year, I have seen familar signatures on the messages left to me. I am happy that my column can assist someone that is just starting in this crazy world. If I felt that my column was not helpful, I would have stopped it a long time ago But I can see the comments left, and that tells me to keep going. Keep helping beginning writers realize there dreams. To start writing and keep writing. To submit their work to markets and contests. Build a portfolio of published material so that you can obtain better paying writing assignments or see your work appear in the top magazines and newspapers.
When I started this column, I was a beginner just like you. I had only been writing professionally a few months, but I made contacts. I researched. I talked to others in the business that had a lot more experience than I did, and I learned right along with you. I am still learning to this very day.
I want this column to be there for you. I want to cover the topics that are most important to you, so if there is something you want or need to know and I haven't covered or haven't covered enough, let me know. I will try and cover those topics as well. Let us continue on this journey of learning together. I'll be here as long as I am needed.
