Software for writersWith the invent of computers, the old method of writing with pen and paper or the rickety old typewriter has started to disappear. Computers and computer software have made it easier for writers to write. Some writers have fought computers and continue to use the old methods, but most, myself included, have embraced computers and all they can do for you. However, they can also do too much for you. The computer and its available software should be used in addition to other things when you write. It should not be the only tool you use in writer's toolbox. There are many different types of computer programs that writers can use. everything from word processors to type your manuscripts to programs that will help you define character, plot, brainstorm, and even write for you. Their are programs available for almost any type of writing imaginable to poetry, grants, and even letters if you can believe that. Some writers feel using some computers especially those that help you write by providing plot, characters, and sometimes even writing scenes for you is not truly writing, but basically just letting a program fdo all the work for you. writing is an artform, and when you let a computer spill out words, phrases, and scenes, it diminishes the artform. Some computer programs are helpful such as word processors. In next week's article, I will discuss a free word processing program made especially for writers.
