Writer's block: we all have had it at what point or another. As writers we dread it, but we know we cannot avoid it. As you sit staring at the blank page in front of you, you ask yourself why does this happen. you know you have the ideas in your head crying to get out of you, but when you try to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard the words do not come. In part one of this article, I will discuss what writer's block is and possible causes.
Before you jump to the conclusion that you are "blocked", you might want to consider that there may be another reason you are not writing. Are you always working or taking care of the kids and have no time to write? Are you tired, ill or depressed? Is there some idea you are working on in your head that hasn't made it to the page yet?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then what you are experiencing may not be writer's block. If you answered no to all of the question's above, then I am sorry to say you most likely have writer's block, but don't fear there are things you can do to help get over your block.
Before you can get over it, you have to know what caused it in the first place so you can help prevent it from happening in the future or stop it before it escalates to a full blown block on your creativity. There are many factors that can cause writer's block:
1.You are pushing yourself too hard. If you set goals for yourself, they might be too high. Lower them a little, and rise them again gradually when the words are following right again.
2. You are working too hard on one piece, trying to get every word just right and it is driving you mad. You might want to try and put the piece away for a few days and come back to it with a clear perspective.
3.Stress. This is something we all have felt. you might have a deadline approaching, or there may be other factors in your life causing. If you are stressed, it will impede your writing.
Now we know what it is and what can cause it. In part two of this article, I will discuss some possible solutions to the problem.
