New Year's Writer's Resolutions

© Regina Avalos

As I sit down to my trusty computer to write this article, I reflect on all off the things that have happened to me in the last year. Last New Year's I wasn't even writing. It is amazing how much can change in your life in the span of one year. If someone would have told me last year that this year I would be working on a book deal with a publishers for fifty books, I would have laughed if their in faces.Yes a lot can change, but only if you work at it. no one is going to come and hand you a book deal. You have to write it, and then you have to sell it. That is the way the publishing world works.

That said here are some of my New Year's suggestions for Writers.
* I will submit at least one piece of writing to a market whether it be paying or not. Online or offline. If I do not have a piece to submit, I will query a potential market with an idea that will be good for their publication.

* I will sit down to write everyday. It doesn't have to be the next greatest masterpiece. Even if it is just 100 words. Those are 100 words that were not on paper yesterday.

* I will read one new book on writing each month. Even if I have to check out of the library because I am a starving writer anc can't afford to buy a new book every month. I will read it, and take what I can from it.

* I will meet with other writers like myself whether it be online or offline, and discuss writing. To find some places to start read my last article Networking with other Writers.

* I will purchase the latest Market Guide for the kind of material I write. Whether it be the Writer's Market, Children's Writer's Market, Novels & Short Stories Market, Poet's Market, or one of the ones for my specific genre.

I am sure their must be many New Year's Resolutions you can make for yourself in regards to your own writing. You know best what you need to improve on writing wise. Why don't you sit down and write a few goals for your writing for the new year.

To all of the people that read my articles on a weekly basis, I would like to say Thank You! I love receiving emails from my readers. It lets me know that work here at the Suite is appreciated and helpful to others. I hope to continue writing articles for you well into the New Year and hopefully for mnay years to come.
