Places to network with other writers

There are many ways that you can meet with other writers both online and offline. Online you have chat rooms, mailing lists, and message boards. Offline you have workshops, meetings, book clubs. There are so many ways to meet others that enjoy what you love doing. All you have to do is look for them. In the rest of this article, I will tell you some of the places I know where writers can meet and share information.

Chat rooms
There are several places online where writers can get together and chat about their writing or writing in general.

Kidlit This channel is moderated by children's author Verla Kay. It can found on the DALnet IRC network or through her website at VerlaKay.com.
Writer's write: This website also has a chat room for writers as well as the Internet Writing Journal and other helpful information for the writer. It can be found at: here.
Other websites that have chat rooms for writers include Inkspot , Institute of Children's lit , Long Ridge Writer's Group.

Mailing lists/Message Boards

There are several mailing lists and message boards for writers. They can be found easily online by searching the following websites: E-groups and Topica. There are lists for every genre and type of writing from poetry to horror and children's literature. They have all purposes from general lists for information to lists for the purpose of the sharing and critiquing of work written. I moderate a list on E-groups called Scrybes. It is a list with many purposes including the sharing of information and work for critique.

Offline

There are many places where you can meet writer's offline. Check with your local college or public library and see if there is meetings in your area. Another place to check is your local bookstore. There is sometimes writers that meet regularly there.
