Adrenal Gland Disease In Ferrets - Page 3© Pam McInnis
In the majority of adrenal ferrets, only one gland is affected. But occasionally, as was the case with Weaz, both glands have tumors. Some veterinarians do not feel that both glands can be removed and allow the ferret to continue to live a quality life. However, double adrenal gland removal is becoming more common as veterinarians learn more about these animals and post-operative treatments that allow them to live out normal, happy life spans. In a future article, I will discuss Weaz's incredible recovery after a double adrenal gland removal and the ongoing treatment that has allowed him to return to a state of frisky weaseldom.
Dealing with adrenal gland disease is an unfortunate reality of ferret ownership. But with early detection and the help of a qualified and caring veterinarian, you and your ferret can get through the rough spots and experience full recovery.
