Time FliesBoy does time fly when life throws you curve balls. I thought it might be required for me to explain my unexplained absence from posting any articles on my New Zealand topic. The problem is that it isn't quite that easy. Just as many of you in the northern hemisphere are heading into the coolness of your winter, Christmas looming, with your summer holidays a faint memory behind you, we are welcoming the warmth of our summer. The tiredness of the year makes looking forward to our summer break and Christmas at the beach even more inviting. Now what has being happening here in My New Zealand that I could say was unique to my part of the world? I'm afraid that the reasons that have kept me from the keyboard is not so unique. Even in New Zealand the trials of family dynamics of a single parent, plus the demands of full time university study, school governance and a hint of a new man, kind of send the time scales off the kilter. But even amongst all that, I am reminded that I am lucky to live in New Zealand. I think of the horrors going on around the world, and bless my stars that I am not in a country that it would not be possible for me to even be experiencing many of my trials, purely because I am a woman or I might not even have a home to keep my children in. A few weeks ago I was taking time out by driving down to Dunedin to pick my oldest daughter up from University. This is a 5 hr drive, through country that is as much part of my essence as breathing is part of being alive. I realized as I drove thru my home town that, no matter where I am in the world, and no matter whereever I live, the rolling hills that were part of my childhood will forever be in my soul. It kind of blows me away as, in my forties, I have now lived away from this area longer than I ever did live there, yet it feels like home. Now what has that got to do with New Zealand and my unexplained absence? Not a lot actually, but it goes a little way to explain that catching up with you all here on Suite101, even though I have been away, is like coming home too. I look forward to catching up with you all.
