Layton New Leader of New Democracy

I watched for Five hours, the countless interviews the panel opinions, and quick facts about how the computers worked and how the Labour vote was counted into the equation.

As there was even more delay in the announcement of the results, a pit grew in my stomach. Could I keep following this party if it failed to elect someone I could see changing the party and making it important to Canadians. And when the first round balloting results came out and Layton won it with 53.5% of the vote, I knew we were going to be a significant party again, and that we would even surpass what we'd already done. Perhaps even forming a federal government sometime in the future.

With Blakie's experience and talent, with Nystrom sense of economics, with Ducasse's energy, youth and the fact that he's french Canadian, coupled with the strong principles of Joe Comartin as well as Bev Meslo's reminder of what we all stand for, the NDP can't afford to be bitter now. With all behind Layton, we can become a competent party. We can win back the West, we Can win in Quebec. And when we win, I believe All Canadians win.
