In Flanders Fields: John McCrae© David Newman

McCrae was soon transfered to Number 3 Canadian General Hospital in France where he healed the wounded of the many battles in which Canadians fought for their King and country: La Somme, Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Arras...
He died in 1918 of pneumonia and meningitis. He was buried with full military honours. He is not known as a fighter, or as doctor, or in fact as a poet, just as a man who scribbled down a few lines, "In Flanders Fields," which spoke the words thousands felt during Canada's deadliest war.
