Explorers of Canada, Part XI: Jean NicoletIn 1637, after returning to Québec, he got married to Marguerite Couillard, with whom he had two children, a son who died in infancy and a daughter. In 1642, while moving up the Fleuve Saint-Laurent, Nicolet's canoe tipped over. It is said he asked his friends who were aboard to swim to shore and leave him there; he was going to God. There are a county, a lake, a river and a city named after Jean Nicolet. http://pages.infinit.net/lej/diction/nic...
