After 22 flights, the AVRO beat records for altitude and for speed. Canada could have been a leader in aeronautics but instead gave in to pressure by Eisenhower and went a step closer to being the 51st State, and just when the AVRO project is just about to be finished, Diefenbaker, on the 20th of February,1959, orders everything to do with the Arrow, including its memory destroyed.
