Where health is in question, the Tories plan to return Health and Social Transfers to 1994 levels. The Tories would add a sixth principle of Medicare which would insure that funding of Medicare be stable and would work closely with the Provincial governments to establish goals and create report cards to ensure that these goals are met. The Tories would only make health related decision in collaboration with the provincial and territorial governments. The Tories would work on many sides of health care with the provinces such as modernizing technology and increase accountability for health care. Biotechnology will be looked at to make sure it is ethical and all genetically modified foods are clearly labelled as such. Regarding post-secondary education issues, the Tories promise to instate a student loan repaying system which would make students pay from a percentage of after-tax income and would introduce a tax-credit which would be based on reimbursement towards the Student Loan. Scholarships will no longer be taxable under Tory Government. The Tories believe that persons with disabilities should be given opportunities to be full participants in society and say they will make the disability tax credit refundable and would expand the list of medical expense claims from working people with disabilities. The Tories claim they care about the environment and would introduce what they call the Safe Water Act, which would set clean water standards. There is also a Safe Air Act, which is quite similar to the Safe Water Act but deals with Air instead. Pesticide control legislation will be proposed by the Tories to update 30-year-old laws and laws protecting endangered species would be improved. Fighting Poverty is important and the Tories say they will work with the provinces to reach measures to prevent and lessen homelessness in Canada. On a cultural note, the Tories will support the CBC as a public broadcaster and would change laws concerning copyright and would change the role of the CRTC to be in alignment with modern broadcasting industries. The First Nations will be given reliable self-government system which would help them prosper economically and culturally.
Alright that's enough policy. As with every other party, this is some, not all of the policy of the party. And since I'm oh so very tired right now and I'm doing this last minute, I may not have done this article on the most important issues. Anyway, I urge you all to vote in the elections, it's a right and a duty to vote for the future of our country. And please, vote for the party which suits your ideals most weather it be any of the parties I covered (Liberal, CA, Bloc, NDP, PC) or Joan Russow's Green Party (http:/www.green.ca), Neil Paterson's Natural Law Party (http://www.natural-law.ca), Paul T. Hellyer's Canadian Action Party (http://www.canadianactionparty.ca), Ronald O. Gray's Christian Heritage Party (http://www.chp.ca), Sandra Smith's Marxist Leninist Party (http://www.cpcml.ca), Miguel Figueroa's Communist Party (http://www.communist-party.ca), Marc-Boris St-Maurice's Marijuana Party (http://www.marijuanaparty.com), Ace Cetinski's Rest of Canada Party (http://www.rocparty.ca) or just an independent who suits your beliefs.
