Lieutenant Governors and Commissioners
All right, I know, I shouldn't have gotten into this. But here are the Lieutenant Governors of the Provinces and Commissioners of the Territories. There are 13 of them all togethrer so the info on each will be very, very limited especially since it's late and I'm tired. How about, East to West? Hmm? Oh, yeah, the amount of information on each of them is relative, some provinces have more information like Ontario (which has an extensive Official Site) rather than BC (which has hardly any information other than his name).
Newfoundland and Labrador: the Honourable Arthur Maxwell House
Arthur House was born in Glovertown, Newfoundland. He was appointed 10th Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1997. He worked as a physician before his appointment and has other post related to medicine. He has been involved in many Provincial and National organisations, specifically those connected to Health and Education which he though was important and spoke of Education and Health at the time of his installation. He shows concern for literacy and the need for students to stay in school. He holds education as the most important thing in a successful society.
Nova Scotia: The Honourable Myra A. Freeman
Myra Freeman was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. With her appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia in May 2000, she became the first woman and first Jewish Lieutant-governor. Mrs. Freeman was a teacher prior to her appointment. She has only been appointed a few months ago and is hard to say what will happen during her term. She has taught in both secular and Jewish schools in Nova Scotia. Although she is New Brunswicker by birth since she studied at Delhousie University she has called Halifax home.
Prince Edward Island: the Honourable Gilbert Ralph Clements
Gilbert Clements was born in Victoria Cross, Prince Edward Island in 1928. He was appointed the 25th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island in 1995. He is the patron of over 30 organisations in PEI and is chancellor of the Order of Prince Edward Island and he himself has received numerous awards in Canada. Before he was appointed he was a politician and has been elected numerous times into the Provincial Legislature and served as a critic for Finance and Environment during the 70s and 80s.
New Brunswick: the Honourable Marilyn Trenholme-Counsell
Marilyn Trenholme-Counsell was born in Baie Verte, New Brunswick. She has worked as a physician and a provincial MLA. She was installed in 1997 as New Brunswick's 28th Lieutenant Governor. She believes that she must create links between New Brunswickers and has participated in many events around the province while in office. She presents the Lieutenant-Governor's Early Childhood Literacy Awards which rewards people who help children learn. She has three commitments which are providing youth with opportunities, representing her Queen Elizabeth II and promoting harmony and pride.
