PEI Election resultsNow, the results for the recent election in Prince Edward Island. The people made a choice, and for most of them, it was the same choice. Voting Progressive Conservative. That's right. The Tories and their leader, Pat Binns, have crushed all opposition. There are only 27 seats in the Legislative assembly in the Province of Prince Edward Island and it seams you only need one, to form an opposition. Or at least, you will for the next three or four years. As You may have guessed, the Tories took home all the seats but one. It seams that everywone expected to do better this election. The Tories expected to be re-elected, the Liberals expected to get an upset win (sounds like were talking about a sport here) and the New Democrats expected to have more than one NDP Deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Leader Herb Dickieson of the NDP was the first and only New Democrat to be elected in PEI. But only the Tories were right. They were re-elected. The Liberals were reduced to one seat and the NDP, well let us just say that well, you know, at least they tried (and failed miserably, the lesson learned? Don't try). The Last election before the April 17, 2000 one was back in 1996. It was the first year after the number of Members of Legilative Assembly were cut down from 32 to 27. The Progressive Conservatives had won in 18 of those. The Liberals had 8 and the New Democrats had 1. Just before the elections, one of the Liberal seats were vacant. Now, the PC party has 26 seats for 57.8% of the popular vote. A true majority. The Liberals had about a third of the vote, 33.7% and the New Democrats had 8.4% of the vote. Ron MacKinley was the only liberal to be elected to Legislature.
