(English) Canadian Words,eh?

Canadian Words?

Well although some people assume cheque and colour instead of check and color is Canadian but the truth is they are British and the only people who don't use them are Americans. But don't get me wrong, Canadians also deviate from British spelling at times. So lets see if there are any truly English Canadian words or expressions.

Francophone, Anglophone and Allophone! While the first two words may be used here and there in the world, Allophone, I doubt, is used out of Canada. An Allophone is someone who doesn't speak either official language (hence not a Francophone of Anglophone) Bum is Canadian, Butt is American although Butt is often used now in Canada. Brown Bread a Canadianism? I didn't know this was only or mainly Canadian, but apparently it is. This is aperently called whole-wheat bread everywhere else but I've never heard it. Click is a word for kilometre although I never heard it really. Deke is a word that means feint which comes from Hockey, or is used in Hockey. Loonie and Toonie are Canadian Coins for $1 and $2 which were created in 1988 and 1996 respectfully.

How Can't I talk about Eh? I mean it's the one word (with Hoser) that English Canadians are represented with. I didn't realise I even said Eh? Until I got access to the Internet a few years ago. But you start noticing it when all the Americans expect you to say it. I though everyone said it but Americans will say Huh? Instead. Anyway, it basically means Donchaknow!.

Homo Milk is homogenized milk and is a term that is only said in Canada. HOSER! That's an insult. What it really means I don't really know but I've never heard it say except when people from the States make fun of us. Keener is a brown-noser although nobody I know says either so I'll just pass on this. When someone is not 'on board' he's offside (from hockey) but you can still be onside too. Reserves are what registered Indians live on, basicaly the American equivalent to Reservations. THE STATES! Not just any state, THE states, well this is the USA but Canadians don't really like the of America so if not called the States, it is simply the US. Twenty-sixers and Two-fer(four) are related to alcoholic beverages. A Twenty-sixer is 26 lquid once bottle of booze. Two-four is a 24 pack. And lets finish with Toque which is a knitted hat.
