Century in Review: 1900-1999


Measures act. In 1976, Montreal hosts the summer Olympic Games, the first held in Canada. In 1977, the Language act in Quebec is passed.

1980-1989
1980 was a big year, well anyway, there was the Sovereignty-related referendum in Quebec, O Canada officially becomes the National Anthem of Canada (it was unofficial for quite some time). Terry Fox runs his marathon for Hope. Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada signs the Canada Act of 1982, which repatriates the Constitution. In 1984, Brian Mulroney becomes Prime Minister of Canada. The City of Calgary hosts the Winter Olympic Games in 1988. In 1988, Canada and the United Sates sign a Free Trade agreement.
