Saskatchewan Election Results Saskatchewan remains NDP, but this time it's a minority government. The Right Wing Saskatchewan Party has gained popular vote from the farmers of Saskatchewan and got more votes then the NDP, but three less Seats, which went to the Liberals. Last election, in 1995, the New Democrats had 42 seats, the Liberals 11 and the Progressive Conservatives had 5 but at dissolution, the standings were New Democrats: 41 seats, the Saskatchewan Party 10 and the Liberals had 5, an Independent had 1 and 1 seat remained vacant. The New Democratic Party has reigned in the province as the CCF from 1944 to 1964, and as the NDP from 1971 to 1982 and again from 1992 to the present. The NDP has 38,7% of the votes and 29 seats, half of those available. The Saskatchewan Party is the official Opposition with 26 seats, which 25 are of rural ridings. The Saskatchewan party has 39.6% of the popular vote This is the first election in which the Saksathewan Party has participating, although the NDP called the SP the Progressive Conservatives under a new name. The PC no longer exists in Saskatchewan after last Elections. They had been in power in the province from 1929 to 1934 and from 1982 to 1991. The Liberal Party has 20.2% of the Popular vote and 3 seats, down two from before the Elections. The Liberal Party hasn't been in power since 1970, after being the dominant party from 1905 to 1929 before a Conservative rule, and from 1934 to 1944 and for the last time from 1964 to 1970. The Other parties have no seats but have 1.5% of the popular vote. The Largest of these other parties is the New Green Alliance with Leader Neil Sinclair, which is associated with the Green Party of Canada. Manitoba Elections Saskatchewan becomes NDP after eleven years of Tory rule. The Tory party, however will be the Official Opposition. The Tories have gained more and more seats since 1988, but then again so did the New Democrats. Where did the seats come from? The Liberals! The Liberals have decreased from 20 seats in 1988 to 3 seats in 1995. In fact, the Liberals haven't formed a Government since 1922. Go To Page: 1 2
