Now it's time to look at the Ontario Liberal Party and their Leader Dalton McGinty.
Dalton McGinty, Leader of Ontario's Liberal Party, was born in 1955 in Ottawa. His father held the Ottawa-South Riding until the 1990 election when his son won the seat for that riding. He got a law degree at the University of Ottawa and founded a law firm: McGinty and McGinty. He won the 1990 Ottawa South Riding and became Opposition Critic for Energy, Colleges and Universities, and Native Affairs. In 1996 he was elected Leader of the Liberal Party and Official Opposition leader. The Liberal Party, in Ontario, last held Office from 1985 to 1990 when David Petterson won the election. It was the First Liberal Government in Ontario since 1943. In the Last Election, the Liberal Party was Official Opposition with only 30 seats out of 130. The Liberals were also Official Opposition during the Rae Government from 1990 to 1995. The Liberal Party starts off by telling Ontario that what Harris has done was the wrong thing to do. McGinty says Harris has put the Health Care in Crisis and is hurting education by closing schools. He claims the Harris Agenda only helps the wealthy few. The Liberal Party wants to change what Harris has already done and wants to create a heath Care System people can count on. On the Education point of view, he wants to make smaller classes in earlier grades, he wants high standards for educators and wants to make universities and colleges more affordable. The Liberals plan to make new tough laws and enforcement to protect our Environment. They claim their plan will work until the year 2020. The Liberals say Harris has made people uncertain of the quality of Ontario's Health Care System. They attack the Harris Government by telling voters that Harris has closed hospitals, fired nurses, cut $870 million, imposed $300 million worth of new user fees and forced patients to go to the United States for treatment. To Repair the Health Care the Liberals promise a health care system for everyone. They guarantee standards that the people of Ontario can count on. Here are some of those promised standards. Patients in life-threatening situations will get the emergency care they need. No one in an emergency room will wait more than 15 minutes. People will get a room if they need to stay at the hospital. The number of nurses will not fall bellow average. There are also more standards that the party plans to set. Go To Page: 1 2
