November November 9 1818 - Prince Johann I granted the people of Liechtenstein a limited constitution as required by the Congress of Vienna. In the years to come the constitution would be changed to increase the powers and rights of the people while keeping a balance with the rights and powers of the ruling Prince. November 12 1858 - Prince Alois Josef I died and was succeeded by Johann II, nicknamed Johann The Good, who reigned until 1929, one of the longest reigns in history. November 13 1938 – Prince Franz Josef II became the first prince to take up permanent residence in Liechtenstein. Until then, the ruling family had lived in Vienna, Austria and rarely visited the Principality. 1989 - Prince Franz Josef II died on November 13, 1989 after a reign of 51 years. His oldest son Prince Hans-Adam II succeeded to the throne. November 24 1949 - Isabelle Princess von und zu Liechtenstein née De l'Arbre de Malander was born. November 25 1901 - Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger, Liechtenstein’s best known composer and a professor at the conservatory in Munich, died in Munich. November 27 1888 – The customs treaty with Austria was automatically renewed. Previous Month – October October 1 1793 - Peter Kaiser, Liechtenstein’s greatest historian, was born in Mauren. He studied languages and history in Feldkirch, Vienna and Freiburg/Breisgau. He played a great part in 1840’s in peacefully bringing about necessary changes in Liechtenstein while most other countries suffered revolts. October 4 1911 – A postal agreement between Austria and Liechtenstein was signed. This agreement was cancelled after Austria’s defeat in WW1 and Liechtenstein sought a similar agreement with neutral Switzerland. October 7 1837 - Liechtenstein signed a treaty with Switzerland on joint regulations such as the regulation of the Rhine to help control and reduce flooding.. October 10 1959 - Prince Friedrich of Liechtenstein died. October 17 1966 - Marie Caroline Princess von und zu Liechtenstein was born. October 24 1872 - The first train crossed Liechtenstein with a stop at Schaanwald, Schaan and Nendeln. Liechtenstein does not have its own railway but is serviced by the Austria railroad connections to Switzerland. 1947 - Nikolaus Prince von und zu Liechtenstein was born. October 28 1967 - Sophie Princess von und zu Liechtenstein née Duchess in Bavaria was born. October 31 1950 - Nora Sartorius née Princess von und zu Liechtenstein was born. Go To Page: 1
