Peter was a member of the local revolutionary committee in the Principality and sought to avoid bloodshed while making gains for the people. In two letters to the Prince he expressed the desire of the citizens of Liechtenstein for "liberty", freedom from serfdom and the right to own their own property. Peter Kaiser's efforts did prevent bloodshed and persuaded the prince to make some real changes.

Peter retired from politics shortly there after and continued to teach in various positions. Even though he was a conservative catholic, many liberals of that time considered him very liberal and devoted to improving the lives of the ordinary people. Many also feel that he was very instrumental in defining the "Liechtenstein identity".

On February 23, 1864, Liechtenstein's greatest historian, Peter Kaiser died in Chur, Switzerland.
