1984 - Women were given the vote for the first time.

July 2

1866 - During Austro-Prussian War, Prince Johann II placed his small army at the disposal of the Confederation to defend only the German territory of Tyrol. The Liechtenstein contingent took up positions at the Stilfser Joch to guard against possible attack by Garibaldi's men.

July 3

1993 - Wedding of Alois Hereditary Prince von und zu Liechtenstein and Sophie Duchess in Bavaria.

July 5

1852 - Liechtenstein entered into a Customs Treaty with Austria.

July 12

1806 - Liechtenstein gained her full sovereignty by being admitted as a member of the Confederation of the Rhine.

1956 - The 150th anniversary of Liechtenstein joining the Confederation of the Rhine was celebrated at Vaduz.

1996 - The 200th anniveristy of Liechtenstein joining the Confederation of the Rhine was celebrated at Vaduz.

July 13

2001 - Liechtenstein authorities indicted two financial advisers for allegedly laundering money linked to Colombia's Cali drugs cartel. The men were also charged with embezzling the proceeds of share trading on behalf of clients in stock issued by German property firm SP A. The arrests were part of Liechtenstein's efforts to improve its international financial image.

1975 - Marie Princess von und zu Liechtenstein née Countess Kalnoky was born.

July 17

1999 - Wedding of Constantin Prince von und zu Liechtenstein and Marie Countess Kalnoky.

1974 - Marie Ileana, Princess of Liechtenstein was born

July 22

1866 - The armistice of Nicholsburg ended the Austro-Prussian War and the Liechtenstein army headed home for a ceremonial welcome in Vaduz. On the way an Austrian liaison officer joined them so that it appeared that, while 80 men had to war, 81 returned home.

1937 - Order of Merit of the Principality of Liechtenstein established by Prince Franz Josef I.

1929 - Prince Franz I married Baroness Elsa Guttmann.

July 25

1938 - Prince Franz died at the family estate in Feldsberg, Czechoslovakia, age 85, having reigned for 9 years. Prince Franz died without issue. The crown passed to his nephew Prince Franz Josef II who began a 50-year reign and took up residence in Vaduz Castle as the first Prince of Liechtenstein to establish permanent residence in Liechtenstein.

July 27

1720 - The Principality was an absolute monarchy and Prince Anton Florian abolished the old feudal system depriving the people of their former rights and privileges. The people did not agree and complained to the Emperor who decreed on July 27 1720, that the free land should be returned unconditionally to the farmers.
