There are so many great conferences coming up I thought you all might enjoy a quick overview and highlights of some of them. This is a very selective list of course -- for more comprehensive listings please have a look at:
* Douglas Hasty's Library Conference Planner * Librarian's Datebook * LibraryHQ Library Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops * ALA Conference Planning Calendar 2002–2012 March * Computers in Libraries March 13-15, 2002 Washington Hilton & Towers, Washington, DC This is one I really wish I could attend, particularly Thursday's session Weblogs: Their Impact on Delivering Information presented by Steven Cohen and Blake Carver. Another session of interest on Thursday concerns digital reference, We’ve Come So Far & Have Miles to Go with presenters Steve Coffman, Julie Arnold, and Neal Kaske. Right after that is "The Collaborative Digital Reference Service: Library of Congress" presented by LOC's Diane Nester Kresh and Chip Nilges of OCLC. * ASIS&T 2002 Information Architecture Summit March 15th-17th, 2002 Marriott Baltimore Waterfront, Maryland "Even though there are thousands of practicing information architects, there are few venues for them to meet and swap stories. "Refining our Craft" is the third in the ASIS&T-sponsored series of conferences that are the largest dedicated meeting places for information architecture professionals." Featuring Summit Speakers Peter Morville (formerly of Argus Associates and co-author of Information Architecture for the World Wide Web) and Steve Krug. April * California Teaming: Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) 16th Annual Conference April 17-21, 2002 Hilton Long Beach, Long Beach, CA I'd love to see Amelia Kassel and Jodi Gregory's Saturday session "Teaming Up for CI"; Risa Sacks' "Straight from the Sources Mouth: Using the Telephone to Gather Information"; and Bill Wilder's "Needle in a Haystack: Searching and Tracking Valuable Information on the Internet". Amelia Kassel is also holding a seminar on Wednesday, Establishing and Building a Successful Information Business: From A-Z. Here's a little about Amelia from her company site, MarketingBase: "Amelia teaches at the University of California Berkeley and for the Information Professionals Institute, Dallas, http://www.burwellinc.com. She taught a full semester credit course at San Jose State University, Graduate Division of Library and Information Science as adjunct faculty for four years. Courses and seminars include Information Brokering, Cost-Effective Online Research, Internet Research for Competitive and Market Intelligence, and Finding Clients. She is a speaker, workshop leader and seminar provider at national conferences worldwide." May * British Columbia Library Association: Trek to Technology? May 9-11, 2002 Go To Page: 1 2
