Professional Reading: The Invisible Web

Chapter seven gives us case studies -- eight scenarios that demonstrate the power of Invisible Web resources -- and chapter eight discusses future trends (hypertext query languages; real-time crawling, and more). Chapter nine discusses some excellent pathfinders for Invisible Web resources, some of which include Price's own direct search, InvisibleWeb.com, and Librarians' Index to the Internet.

The remaining chapters essentially comprise a directory of Invisible Web resources in a number of subject areas, including art and architecture, business and investing, U.S. and world history, computers and Internet, entertainment, health and medical information, government information, news and current events, public records, real-time information, science, and others. The online companion to this directory is www.invisible-web.net.

Check out chapter twelve, "Business and Investing" -- it's online!

This is an excellent book rich with background information, search tips and advice, and resources. I highly recommend it to librarians and other information professionals who "search" for a living.

Happy American Thanksgiving to everyone!
