On The Lighter Side

"Mr. Smith put The Laughing Librarian together in early 1999, but he started drawing up ideas a couple years earlier, after witnessing a number of law librarians complain about the inclusion of excerpts from The Lipstick Librarian (no relation) in the AALL Spectrum magazine. "It's unprofessional," they whined. Mr. Smith figured that it's a sign of professional confidence to be able to laugh and joke about one's occupation. He also decided that one of the most unprofessional things that one can do is whine about wanting to be respected as a professional".

I couldn't agree more. This reminded me of some of the ideas expressed in The Perception of Image and Status in the Library Profession (NewBreed) by Deirdre Dupre. If you haven't read that yet I highly recommend it.

Some of the other blogs and zines mentioned in Marylaine's Communicating Off the Page are:

FilteReality and librarism - Brian Smith

Library News Daily - Peter Scott

Rogue Librarian - Carrie Bickner

Street Librarian - Chris Dodge

The Lipstick Librarian - Linda Absher

Adventures of Conan the Librarian

I hope you have fun exploring The Laughing Librarian as well as some of the other great sites out there for/about/by librarians that remind us not to take ourselves so seriously.
