Upcoming Conferences of Note

Obviously this is not an exhaustive list, but rather a select number of conferences happening this year that I think are worth noting and worth attending.

In chronological order . . .

Computers in Libraries 2001, March 13-17, Washington DC
InfoToday's 16th annual Computers in Libraries conference focusses on the use of technology in libraries. Everything from Intranet tools and case studies, wireless strategies for libraries, Web design and management to content and knowledge management will be covered. School media specialists will be interested to know that MultiMedia Schools is sponsoring the specialized 'conference within a conference' Computers in School Libraries 2001 on the Friday and Saturday.

AIIP 2001, April 19-22, New Orleans LA
The 15th annual conference of the Association of Independent Information Professionals will "explore the world of the information entrepreneur", so if that's your thing this would be a great conference to attend. The keynote speakers are the inimitable Gary Price and Chris Sherman - reason enough to go right there!

InfoToday 2001, May 14-18, New York
All of the conferences sponsored by Infotoday.com are noteworthy. InfoToday 2001 actually consists of three simultaneous conferences: National Online 2001, KnowledgeNets 2001, and E-Libraries 2001. National Online will focus on information content and information delivery technologies, and will be of interest to any information professional with an interest in electronic information and its distribution. KnowledgeNets will focus on the theories, practices, strategies and tools of knowledge management, and will appeal to any professional in charge of knowledge management at his or her company. And finally the E-Libraries conference "focuses specifically on the distribution and management of information through libraries and information centers".

American Society of Indexers, May 31-June 4, Boston MA
ASI's 33rd annual conference is sure to be a great place for new and experienced indexers alike to learn valuable new skills and to network. The 2000 conference covered topics such as technical indexing, the development of controlled vocabularies for MIDs, indexing fiction, basic and advanced indexing using the CINDEX and MACREX programs, Web indexing, and the history of indexing style.

Special Library Association, June 9-14, San Antonio TX
The theme of SLA's 92nd annual conference is 2001, An Information Odyssey: Seizing the Competitive Advantage, and will focus on future directions, management, information technology, positioning, and tools for practitioners. Speakers include Nancy Austin of Inc. magazine, writer Molly Ivins, and keynote speaker Dave Barry.
