Digital Reference Services: RevisitedOn a personal note, I am still very happily working as a 24/7 Reference Librarian. Our consortium continues to grow and we continue to offer great service to our patrons via the Internet. Some of the things that can be challenging about reference in the live, virtual environment are: the reference interview, and lack of local knowledge when answering patrons from other, distant libraries or countries. But for the most part, in my experience, the vast majority of transactions with patrons are very successful. It's a fun and challening job that I love. So -- is your library offering live reference services yet? If not, why not? Do you have questions and concerns? I hope you'll post them here and we can get a discussion going. In the meantime, as always, thanks for reading! (And a Happy Canada Day to all tomorrow!)
