Using Real WordsUsing real words has become more and more important in our self-censoring world. Political Correctness has dulled our sense of the proper use of words, and instead has conditioned us to look at how loaded they are. This is a disastrous state of affairs, because language is literally our conceptual window to the world. We evaluate everything that we see through the framework of the words we use to label them. First, let's start with some important terms. I will first show you the word commonly used, followed by the correct word or expression we should use, and an explanation. Government : Official mafia. The main characteristics of a mafia are the use of force, extortion, dealing with illegality, and being a self-contained organization with its own twisted values. Government shares most of these properties, but has the vast advantage of not having to act in illegality at all. Some statists protest that the comparison is unfair, but when an organization uses force to impose an extortion on you in exchange for "security", you would naturally conclude that you are being targeted by a mafia. The fact that we live in society and need to cooperate does not necessitate the existence of a monopoly of force. I already examined this type of argument in "The Transcendental Argument for Collectivism". Democracy : Mob rule. The principle of democracy is inherently absurd - the idea that the most popular opinion is automatically correct is not supported by any rational principle or scientific fact. In practice, democracy is nothing more than formalized mob rule. In a mob, individuals galvanize each other into committing violence through mass interaction. In democracy, individuals vote to use government force against other individuals, pushed in this by the media and its power of mass interaction. Or in mafia terms, we can simply say that democracy consists of extortion victims deciding who's going to be the next mafia boss, with no possibility of ever being freed from him. Freedom : ? No term can replace the common use of "freedom", since every single individual in the world has a different idea of what that means, which has nothing to do with the most obvious definition (i.e. the reverse of slavery : self-ownership). In average, "freedom" means not having to work harder, not having to think, not having to make decisions, or not having to be responsible for those decisions. Left-winger : A statist who wishes the government to take over economical freedom, but only wants to control social freedom.
