The Magic ToyLiving with a Lhasa Apso, even one, never mind 10, is an experience unlike any other you will ever have. Small wonder that anyone who has ever shared their life with a Lhasa will not even consider any other companion. Like children, they have a tremendous desire to be included in everything you do. They have very specific likes and dislikes and these often create dissension among the troops. It is not at all unusual for disputes to break out over position on the bed, toy placement or current activities. Lately, we have been having rather heated debates about the television. I have a tendency to keep the television on, even when I am working at night. Partly to give the kids something do besides get in the middle of whatever I am trying to do. I have always kept the remote control laying on the bed for easy access. I was not a problem until a few weeks ago. Sunny, being bored with what was on tv and not getting the desired response from me, since I was busy, noticed the remote control. He apparently decided it would make a good toy. He picked it up and took it to the end of the bed where he placed carefully between his front feet. He started to shift his position and accidently stepped on the remote. Of course, the channel changed. This thing now had his full attention. It took less than a minute for him to discover the connection between the tv and the remote, less time than that to figure out that stepping on the buttons was the key. Just like any other male, he started channel surfing. The rapidly changing channels attracted the attention of the rest of the crew and they immediately rushed to find out what he had discovered. They all are fascinated by the changing of the channels. If I don't put the remote out of reach, one or the other immediately snags it and starts pouncing on the buttons. Of course, like kids everywhere they squabble over possession of this magic toy. I guess I should just be grateful no one wants to chew on it. Just when I thought I had a tv all to myself, I am suddenly sharing it with all of the kids and settling disputes over what to watch again. Oh well, life is like that, yeah it is.
